PS2 MechaCon security chip reverse-engineered after four years

Retro hardware enthusiast DiscoStarslayer has successfully reverse-engineered the CXP102064 MechaCon chip inside the original PlayStation 2, which governs the console's optical drive and security functions. The breakthrough follows four years of work and closes what is described as the console's last major hardware secret, 26 years after its release.
